Dr Sang Le - hand specialist

Treatments and Conditions

 Biography

Dr. Sang Le was born in Vietnam, but together with his parents and his siblings fled the country in late 1979 on a fishing boat in search of a better life. After living in a refugee camp in Indonesia for several months, his family was sponsored to come to Southern California.

Dr. Le attended the University of California, Los Angeles and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Cybernetics and Molecular Biology in 2001. He stayed at UCLA to pursue a Master's in Physiological Science for an additional year when he decided on a career in medicine.

The second youngest of ten children, Dr. Le is the only one in his family who is involved in the medical field. He chose to study medicine because he wanted to help people. Dr. Le explains, "I have always enjoyed working with my hands to fix things, whether it be fixing cars or computers. The challenge of restoring function intrigues me and gives me great satisfaction, but to be able to restore function for my patients in the practice of orthopedics is an incomparable level of satisfaction and challenge."

Dr. Le received his Medical Doctorate from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in 2006. He then returned to Southern California and completed his orthopedic surgery residency training at Loma Linda University Medical Center in 2011. As a senior resident, he traveled to Haiti with Dr. Gary Frykman on a medical mission to care for those who were affected by the massive earthquake. It was also during his last year in residency when he met his future wife Patricia.

After his residency, Dr. Le then spent an additional year in fellowship training in Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery at the University of Florida before joining his previous mentors at Arrowhead Orthopaedics in September of 2012.

Dr. Le has a great interest in the field of hand surgery because of the complex and intricate pathoanatomy of the conditions. He looks forward to continue learning how to best care for his patients as well as taking on the challenges of difficult orthopedic conditions. As he says, "Sometimes the more difficult the problem, the more rewarding it is when you are able to solve it."

Some of Dr. Le's other interest include snowboarding, basketball, listening to music, traveling, and hanging out with family and friends.
