    San Antonio Regional Hospital Announces New Board of Trustees Appointments

    Upland, CA (July 29, 2020) – San Antonio Regional Hospital is pleased to announce the appointment of three new members to its Board of Trustees. Dora Barilla, DrPH, MPH; Mary Lopez, PhD, RN, OCN; and Robert Mendez, JD join the board chaired by Vincent J. Carollo, MD.

    Dora Barilla, DrPH, MPH


    Dora Barilla, DrPH, MPH is currently Vice President of Community Health Investment at Providence St. Joseph Health, the Co-Founder and President of the national consultancy group HC2 Strategies, and the Founder of Partners for Better Health, a not-for-profit organization promoting community health initiatives. She previously held leadership roles at Loma Linda University Health where she was Associate Director, Institute for Health Policy and Leadership, and later Assistant VP of Strategy and Innovation. Dr. Barilla is also an Assistant Professor of Health Policy & Leadership at Loma Linda School of Public Health. She has served on a number of boards and committees, including the Inland Empire Economic Partnership, where she was chair of the Healthcare Council. Dr. Barilla has authored several professional publications and books on healthcare leadership and public health. She earned her undergraduate degree in Sports Medicine from Pepperdine University, and a DrPH in Health Education from Loma Linda University, with a Cognate in Health Policy from Johns Hopkins University.


    Mary Lopez, PhD, RN, OCN


    Mary Lopez, PhD, RN, OCN is the Dean of the College of Graduate Nursing at Western University Health Sciences. Dr. Lopez is certified as a public health nurse and a legal nurse consultant. She has practiced in a variety of nursing settings over the past 25+ years including critical care, medical-surgical, administration, clinical staff development, and education. She is currently a nurse scientist at Presbyterian Intercommunity Health System. Dr. Lopez received her Associate Degree in Nursing at Pasadena City College, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Cal State Los Angeles, and her PhD at Azusa Pacific University. She has been teaching nursing students at the pre-licensure and graduate levels since 2004. Dr. Lopez has special research interests in translational research, simulation, and health care in vulnerable populations in the Latino community.


    Robert Mendez, JD


    Robert Mendez, JD currently serves as Professor of Business Administration at Whittier College. Prior to his appointment at Whittier College, Mr. Mendez was an accomplished television industry attorney and senior executive with global entertainment companies managing business and legal affairs. In his last position, he served as Senior Vice President, Diversity & Talent Development for Disney/ABC Television Group. In his role, Mr. Mendez was responsible for advancing diversity strategies for various properties within the Disney/ABC Television Group. He also served as Senior Vice President, Business & Legal Affairs, for Disney/ABC Domestic Television. Earlier in his career, Mr. Mendez served as Senior Vice President, Business Affairs at Paramount Pictures Domestic Television. Long committed to employment diversity in the television industry and other business sectors, Mr. Mendez is a past President of the Hispanic National Bar Association, and has served on the boards of the Mexican American Bar Association, the International Radio and Television Society, and the National Association of Multi-Ethnics in Communications, among others. Mr. Mendez is also a past member of the FCC Subcommittee on Diversity in the Digital Age. Mr. Mendez received his Juris Doctorate from the University of California Davis School of Law and his Bachelor of Arts degree from Pomona College.


    Barilla, Lopez, and Mendez have joined an impressive array of existing members and officers of San Antonio’s Board of Trustees. These community members who volunteer their time, energy, skill, and varied experience serve as stewards for a critically important community asset.
