It is very important to become familiar with the way your breasts look and feel to know what is normal for you, so that you can recognize any changes if they do occur.
Talk to your doctor right away if you notice any changes in your breasts that concern you. These may include:
A screening mammogram is a low dose X-ray of your breast and the best method for detecting breast cancer early. The American Cancer Society recommends annual screening to start at age 40 for average risk women and should continue age 45 to 54. Women aged 45 to 54 should receive yearly mammograms. Women 55 and older, it is recommended every year also. Women at elevated risk for breast cancer may qualify for mammograms at a younger age. Talk to your healthcare provider about your own personal risk factor.
