Laceration Repair at Urgent Care: Quick Treatment for Cuts and Tears

Checkmark Medically reviewed by Jennifer Cronkrite, LVN, Manager, Urgent Care Facilities

Lacerations—deep cuts or tears in the skin—can happen suddenly and may require more than just a bandage. Whether caused by a kitchen knife, broken glass, or a fall, these injuries often need prompt medical attention. Fortunately, our urgent care clinics provide expert laceration repair without the long wait of an emergency room.

At San Antonio Regional Hospital’s urgent care clinics, medical providers will first assess the severity of the laceration, including its depth, location, and risk of infection. Treatment may include stitches (sutures), wound glue, or steri-strips, depending on the size and nature of the cut. The wound will be thoroughly cleaned to prevent infection, and you’ll receive instructions on wound care at home, including signs of complications to watch for.

If the laceration occurred more than a few hours ago, or if the wound is particularly dirty, your provider may also recommend a tetanus booster. Follow-up care may be advised to ensure proper healing and reduce scarring.

San Antonio Regional Hospital’s urgent care clinics are equipped to handle most non-life-threatening cuts quickly and efficiently, offering same-day laceration repair so you can recover with confidence.
