Meds-to-Beds Program
Get Your Prescriptions Delivered Bedside Before You Leave the Hospital
Transitioning from the hospital setting to home can be a critical time for patients. Many are discharged with prescribed medication(s) from their attending physician that are critical for continued treatment and recovery. Unfortunately, statistics show that 20 to 30% of patients do not fill their medications after discharge. This often leads to set backs and hospital readmissions.
What is Meds-to-Beds?
Meds-to-Beds is a convenient pharmacy service that delivers your prescriptions right to your bedside before discharge. This allows you to skip a separate pharmacy trip and focus on what really matters—going home and staying healthy.
What are the Benefits

- Convenience — The medications you will need at home are delivered straight to your room before you leave! This can be especially helpful for patients who are on their own, or have transportation or mobility issues getting to a pharmacy..
- One-on-one pharmacy counseling — A San Antonio pharmacist can review all medications and dosage instructions with you and your family/caregivers, answer any questions, and provide one-on-one counseling before you leave the hospital.
- Better recovery — Having your medications in hand means you can focus on your health and recovery as soon as possible.
Who Can Use This Service?
Our Meds-to-Beds program is available to all patients who are being discharged from our hospital.
Is There a Charge?
Meds-to-Beds is a FREE service. There is no extra charge, other than the cost of your prescriptions, which will be billed through your insurance. Your insurance information will be obtained and co-pays will be discussed with you in advance.
How Does Meds-to-Beds Work?
- A hospital representative will provide an overview of the program at bedside and ask if you would like to enroll.
- If you accept the service, we will obtain your insurance information and have you sign a waiver.
- Once your prescriptions are finalized at discharge, they will be filled at San Antonio's Outpatient Pharmacy.
- When you are ready for discharge, your copayment will be processed, your medications will be delivered to your hospital room, and you will receive one-on-one medication counseling.
- Then, you’re ready to go!
What Happens if I need a Refill?
You can easily move or transfer your prescription(s) to your preferred pharmacy for refills.

- An outside pharmacy can request the prescription(s) be transferred, but the patient will need to initiate the process with their selected pharmacy.
- Provide the outside pharmacy with the San Antonio Outpatient Pharmacy phone number: (909) 579-6970.
- The outside pharmacy can then request the prescription be transferred to them.
- PLEASE NOTE: Schedule III-V controlled substances (Tylenol with codeine, Tramadol, Pregabalin) can only be transferred to another pharmacy ONCE. Schedule II controlled substances (Norco, Percocet, Morphine) CANNOT be transferred to another pharmacy.
