Cancer Program

Our cancer program is accredited by the American College of Surgeons and recently received commendations in seven areas from the Commission on Cancer. 

• SARH has been continuously accredited by the Commission on Cancer (CoC) for over 40 years. The Commission on Cancer is a consortium of professional organizations dedicated to improving cancer patients’ survival and quality of life. The CoC establishes high standards for cancer care that must be met to maintain this coveted accreditation.  

• SARH has partnered with City of Hope to provide specialized cancer care to our community. With this partnership, SARH can offer our patients the highest quality medical and surgical cancer care. We currently provide surgical subspecialties in breast cancer, gynecologic oncology, urology, and colorectal cancers. Our partners at City of Hope also provide clinical trials and have a dedicated genetic specialist ready to assist you.

• SARH Oncologists utilize nationally recognized treatment guidelines established by the National Cancer Comprehensive Network (NCCN). "The NCCN Guidelines® are the recognized standard for clinical direction and policy in cancer care and are the most thorough and frequently updated clinical practice guidelines available in any area of medicine." Content source: NCCN.org
• SARH has partnered with the American Cancer Society to provide support services, such as transportation assistance and cancer education to our patients and community.

• SARH offers a Dedicated Oncology Care Unit servicing both Medical and Surgical Oncology patients. This 28-bed unit boasts all private rooms and is located in the newest tower of the hospital. 

• SARH has a multidisciplinary team of physicians from various fields, including medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, surgical oncologists, pathologists, radiologists, and other specialists. This team works together to provide each patient with the best possible care and outcome.
• Unit-based Oncology Nurse Navigator (ONN): The ONN is an expert cancer care clinician who assists patients through the continuum of care from the time of diagnosis through cancer treatment and into survival. The ONN works in collaboration with the interdisciplinary healthcare team. The nurse navigator serves a key role in bridging any communication gaps and helping patients and their families to understand their cancer diagnosis, treatment options, and treatment plan. 

• Oncology Nurses: Our nurses are specially trained in the field of oncology and provide compassionate, evidence-based patient care. All chemotherapy treatments are administered by a registered nurse certified as a chemotherapy/immunotherapy provider by the Oncology Nursing Society. All new nurses are under the direct supervision of a chemotherapy/ immunotherapy certified nurse.
